How To Solve “No Service” and “No Imei” on Samsung Galaxy S3.

Hello guys some few months back i happened to flash a custom Rom on my T-Mobile Galaxy S3 and when on the Rom it was all good i had network and stuff but later on i decides to switch back to the stock Rom. After doing so my S3 lost network and so at first i thought it was a sim card problem but later after trying different sim cards i discovered that it was an issue with the phones software i had lost some internal applications(as i may call them)

Later i started searching for guide on how to return my phone’s network since i couldn’t do anything with it except listen to music but nothing concerning data usage, I even made a YouTube video(even thou it was too shady) noone responded to it. No worries if you happen to have the same problem if you found this page then your phone is all well. Thanks to a few forums that helped me and later found all the solution to my problem now i’m gonna help everyone in need. I don’t have a video for the procedure i never made one but i feel bad i didn’t cause its many people who are in need with no service next to gabage Galaxy S3s.

I will make sure i explain everything clearly.but first you will need to download the following application

INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Download NV reader/writer here and install these drivers.

2) Dial *#7284# and select “Qualcomm USB Settings” then check “RMNET + DM + MODEM“.

3) Create backup.

a) Click “port” in the top left and select your samsung serial port.
b) Make sure BOTH boxes in the top bar are checked.
c) Click “Connect” in the top bar.
d) Click “Read” in the top bar.
e) Click “Read” in the lower ‘NV-items’ section.
f) Save the .txt file, this is your backup

*The process will take 5-10min. The file size will be roughly 3mb and “inactive item” and “bad parameter” sections are normal.
*To restore click “Write” in the lower ‘NV-items’ section and navigate to your backup file.

4) Dial *#7284# and select “Qualcomm USB Settings” then check “MTP + ADB“.

Demonstration video HERE << Thanks to moonfire for the video.

IMEI ALREADY CORRUPT?

Use THIS custom built tool to easily generate a backup file with your properly formatted IMEI to restore your phone!

1) Enter your IMEI (find it behind your battery) in the text box up top, hit generate then hit save.

2) Use “NV-Item reader writer” to write the saved text file back to your phone and then reboot.

For more on The same topic you can go to Xda-developers here

and also there is a popup notification that is quite disturbing called The Factory Mode you can disable it through this method.

First, download ROM Toolbox from the market or online and install manually here here

Second,In Root Browser, navigate to efs/FactoryApp/ (It will ask for root access, allow it)

1

In this folder there will be a file named factorymode. Click it, then click Open as…

2

Choose Text file, then choose RB Text Editor. This will open it as a text file. Here’s where it gets a bit confusing. If it says “OFF” (which yours will), that means it is showing the annoying box on your home screen, like this:

3 4

But if you change it to say “ON” then save and reboot, no more annoying box!

6

Remember, whether you are enabling or disabling it, you have to reboot for the changes to take effect. Enjoy!

I hope this helps. If it don’t or you are stuck feel free to leave a comment be and will see how i can help you.

    Hi
I did not find “Qualcomm USB Settings” then check “RMNET + DM + MODEM“ in step 2 !! I found (UART=> Modem or PDA and USB=> Modem or PDA) what should I do ?

    • techglobal101 September 14, 2013 at 2:02 PM

choose from pda then change from the normal MTP+ADB to RMNET + DM + MODEM. You should be able to view it on your computer ports section

      • AlexOneTwo September 15, 2013 at 6:53 PM

I don’t understand i have selected as you said pda from both UART and USB but still the same screen appears when i type *#7284#! What should i do?

download terminal emulator and run the following command.it will lead you directly to the qualcomm settings page
      su -c ‘am start -n com.sec.android.app.phoneutil/com.sec.android.app.phoneutil.USBSettings’
you have to be rooted for this to work

    hi,
i have been through the steps when i get to in nv reader and click read
its comes up with Failed..phone does not answer
any help i have a no IMEI

    • techglobal101 September 14, 2013 at 2:06 PM

first you need ton inject your imei into your phone then do that step

      • Jake September 16, 2013 at 10:18 PM

Can you please expand upon “inject your imei” first? I thought using NV-items writer was injecting, but it can’t because the phone doesn’t answer. Also, in the NV-items writer, the USB option is grayed out, even though it is selected. Not sure if this is indicative of anything. Thanks!

  19. Aaron September 14, 2013 at 8:50 PM

Hey techglobal101, thanks for the tut. However, my i9300 with 4.1.2 restored stock FW, still has IMEI 004999010640000 / 01. In addition, after dialing *#7284# and selecting Qualcomm USB Settings, it shows the following:

    MTP
    MTP + ADB
    PTP
    PTP + ADB
    RDNS + DM + MODEM
    DM + MODEM + ADB

Can you advise me which to select, as well as what cable to use e.g. standard USB, UART USB, and should I downgrade to fix this. Also were you getting the phone information after connecting to NV reader/writer? Please help me…

    Thanks

HI im not getting that qualcom usb option that u have mentioned in the second step. and also wen i try to read using the reader im getting a message as failed.Phone doesnt answer…

  25. Erik September 25, 2013 at 7:44 PM

    Hey,

when i click generate i get an error message: Could not find file: nv.txt in user/appdata/local/temp/afolder. I can click continue or quit. When I click continiue nothing happens, the white box stays empty.

I already tried making a custom (empty) nv.txt file in /user/appdata/local/temp/afolder. But when I do that; nothing happens when I click generate.

  26. Deacon September 28, 2013 at 7:17 PM

All I get is phone does not answer.

  27. Quinton October 1, 2013 at 3:45 PM

  28. kim October 3, 2013 at 7:01 PM

I can’t install the drivers help!!

  29. Alex October 4, 2013 at 7:37 PM

After installing a rom from Sammobile or rooting process with CF-Root, I lost voice service. The IMEI is there… and matching the one showing on the device. But the phone keeps saying “Insert SIM card” or “No SIM”. No phone calls possible. Chances are the efs got corrupted in the process. When I try to follow your instructions, I don’t even see the Qualcomm USB settings. Maybe that’s because my phone was bought in Europe. I only have 2 sets of options:

UART (modem or PDA) (modem is selected)
USB (modem or PDA) (PDA is selected)
Alledgelly I have to pick one option in each group and press Save and Reset.

    I’m clueless.
Thank you very much for your working helping people, techglobal101. There should be more people like you on this planet.

plz told me how do they work

  32. konstantin October 10, 2013 at 12:26 PM

    1. I tried to install downloaded drivers but nothing happens after click on the button Setup.
    2. After the dialed combination *#7284# my s3 shows another options: “PhoneUtil” -> “UART: Modem/pda”, “USB: Modem/pda” -> “Save and Reset”. As a result, there is no required port to chose -> The phone cannot be found by my laptop.
Q1: How could be solved issue with another *#7284# menu
Q2: Could the second issue be caused by the first one?
Thanks a lot for any help!!!!!

    • kaygee April 7, 2014 at 6:32 AM

download terminal emulator and run this command it will lead you to the qualcomm settings page directly.
      su -c ‘am start -n com.sec.android.app.phoneutil/com.sec.android.app.phoneutil.USBSettings’
you have to be rooted for this to work

does this change your IMEI or just fix it? i need to change my imei

  43. Alexis (@Inpressiva) October 21, 2013 at 9:07 PM

    Today I tried this:

    http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2013/10/How-to-Fix-Wrong-IMEI-No-Network-Galaxy-S3-S4-Note2.html

But still to no avail. The good news is now my phone always asks for the PIN. But I sill have the generic Samsung IMEI 0049xxxxx and still emergency calls only.

This is so frustrating. I own a Galaxy S3 (international version). I’m among those ones who don’t have the Qualcomm settings presented in the US versions :-(((

  44. Gerhard October 29, 2013 at 5:19 PM

Please send me a link to the Custom tool. The http://www.cidextreme.com/download/sgs3.nv.gen.zip link is not working anymore. I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

    if you’ve lost your IMEI code in your phone, then fix your IMEI here, no editing (since thats not exactly legal), no back required, no manual fixing required;
